Bulgarian-born virtuoso accordionist Milen Slavov,
of Portland Oregon, joins forces with the 12-piece gypsy brass band
Krebsic
Orkestar, also located in Portland, to create
Balkan Fusion Project - energetic, danceable, and wild
Balkan-inspired music with a twist. A show of original compositions for accordion
and brass band, fusing Balkan and jazz elements, and integrating some
traditional Balkan tunes, songs, belly dance, and chamber music.
Also, featured
are the acclaimed Bulgarian folk singer Zhivka Papancheva, and bellydancer
Severina.
This collaboration is not only musically unique
but also the cast of the show is of performers with various musical
and ethnic backgrounds. Entertaining, captivating, and culturally
enriching, the show reaches out to a diverse audience; bringing this
music to the masses and advocating the similarities between people,
not the differences.Expect fiery virtuosic melody lines,
odd meters, a powerful section of drums and low brass, and an infectious,
emotionally moving repertoire of...World music fusion.
